5 Week Program

Our five-week program is founded on evidence-based techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy, rational emotive behavioural therapy, and current research in addictions recovery. Our program is influenced by many traditions including Buddhist philosophy, Mindfulness meditation, the twelve-step philosophy of AA, Stoicism, and Yogic practice. Our aim is to offer clients multiple approaches to personal growth, better health and vitality.

The essence of our program is to help people learn new coping strategies to address the underlying emotional issues which often manifest as addictive behaviours. These skills help clients reduce reactivity, and increase impulse control and self-regulation. Old habits of thinking and feeling lose their ability to dictate one’s behaviour. Our program helps people make better choices for their health and well-being, and ultimately enhances their relationships with family, friends and themselves.

At Whispering Pines, there is a strong focus on self-care, productivity, leisure and recreation, nutrition, and exercise. Clients partake in cooking, light cleaning, and gardening. During summer months, group sessions and individual counselling are often delivered in our courtyard.

Group therapy offers clients the benefit of a wider perspective and peer encouragement and emotional support. This fosters empathy and compassion and the understanding that there are many other individuals struggling through similar issues.

Individual therapy allows clients to discuss issues that they may not feel comfortable talking about in a group setting. This offers residents a much more thorough and targeted therapy than group sessions alone.

Extended Program

A longer stay is available for individuals who may require a more lengthy treatment. This option is available at admission or at any point after consulting with the treatment team. It is designed for those who experience a prolonged detox, have had multiple relapses in the past, are in the midst of a housing transition, and/or have mental health issues requiring a longer period of stability.

Aftercare (Additional charge)

Aftercare is strongly encouraged for clients who have completed the program. Aftercare provides clients with continuity of care that gives them the greatest chance of remaining abstinent after treatment. In addition, consistent contact with Whispering Pines staff can help clients get back on track should there be a relapse.

This program is available for those who request an opportunity to return to the treatment facility to refresh recovery strategies by reviewing the program values.
